How It Works — No Location Permission Needed
Your browser reveals your timezone (like Europe/London or America/New_York) to every website — that's how sites show times in your local clock. Each timezone is anchored to a known city, and sunset times shift only a few minutes across a timezone region. So we calculate today's sunrise and sunset for your timezone's anchor city using standard solar equations, entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, no GPS is used, and you'll never see a location permission popup.

Why Sunset Time Changes Every Day
Because Earth's axis is tilted about 23.4°, the sun's path across the sky shifts through the year. Around the June solstice the sun sets latest in the northern hemisphere; around the December solstice it sets earliest. Near the equator sunset barely moves all year, while at high latitudes it can swing by six hours or more between summer and winter — and above the polar circles the sun may not set (or rise) at all for weeks.

How do you know my location without asking?
We don't know your exact location — only your timezone, which your browser shares with every website. That's enough to compute sunset to within a few minutes, and the calculation never leaves your device.
How accurate is it?
Timezone-based estimates are usually within a few minutes of the true time for your exact spot. Using the optional precise-location button brings it to within about a minute. Note that hills, buildings, and atmospheric conditions shift the visible sunset slightly.
What is golden hour?
