What Day of the Week Was I Born On?
Enter your birth date above to instantly see which day of the week you were born on, along with your line from the traditional Monday's Child rhyme. The calculator also shows the weekday your birthday falls on for the next few years and lists the past years when your birthday landed on the same weekday you were born.
The Monday's Child Rhyme
This fortune-telling nursery rhyme was first written down in England in the 1800s. It gives each day of the week a trait:
- Monday's child is fair of face,
- Tuesday's child is full of grace,
- Wednesday's child is full of woe,
- Thursday's child has far to go,
- Friday's child is loving and giving,
- Saturday's child works hard for a living,
- And the child that is born on the Sabbath day is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.
It is just for fun, of course, but it remains a popular gift for new babies and a classic birthday card verse.
How Does Your Birthday Weekday Change Each Year?
A common year has 365 days, which is 52 weeks plus one day, so your birthday moves forward one weekday each year. When a February 29 falls between two birthdays, it moves forward two days. If you were born on a Tuesday, your first birthday will usually be on a Wednesday. Between 1901 and 2099 the whole calendar repeats every 28 years, so your birthday falls on the same weekday as the day you were born at least every 28 years, and usually more often.
Which Day of the Week Do Most Babies Arrive?
In countries such as the United States, noticeably fewer babies are born on Saturdays and Sundays than on weekdays. That is because many births are scheduled inductions or planned cesarean deliveries, which hospitals usually book for weekdays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays tend to be among the busiest days for births.
