About the Moon Timer
A moon that waxes from new to full and back to new across a single timer cycle. The lit fraction grows for the first half of your timer, peaks at full moon at the midpoint, then wanes back to dark when time runs out.
How It Works
At the start the moon is fully dark (new moon). Quarter-way through, you'll see a crescent. At the midpoint, a complete full moon. From there the lit fraction shrinks symmetrically until time hits zero and you're back at new moon.
Perfect For
- Meditation — slow, symmetric motion
- Sleep timers — gentle, atmospheric visual
- Astronomy lessons — a visual demonstration of moon phases
- Calming routines — non-anxious progress indicator
FAQ
When is the moon full?
Exactly at the midpoint of your timer. So a 30-minute timer hits full moon at the 15-minute mark.
Why does it go back to new moon at the end?
One full lunar cycle is mapped onto your timer's duration. The moon waxes for the first half and wanes for the second — same shape going in as coming out.
Is the moon timer free?
Yes — free, no signup. Runs in any modern browser.
Can I use it in fullscreen?
Yes. Tap the Fullscreen button; press Esc to exit.
