What Is a 90 Minute Timer?
A 90 minute timer is a simple countdown that starts at ninety minutes and counts down to zero, then sounds an alarm. It is the same as a 1.5 hour timer — one and a half hours displayed as a big, easy-to-read clock. Hit start and the timer runs quietly in the background so you can stay heads-down on a focus block without watching the clock. When the 90 minutes are up, a bell rings so you know it is time to stop, take a break or move on.
Why 90 Minutes?
Ninety minutes shows up again and again in how we work, rest and study. Researchers describe roughly 90 minute ultradian rhythms — natural cycles of higher and lower energy across the day. Working in one 90 minute focus block and then resting tends to fit that rhythm better than grinding for hours without a pause. Ninety minutes is also close to one full sleep cycle, so a 90 minute nap can carry you through a complete cycle of light, deep and REM sleep and leave you feeling refreshed instead of groggy. On top of that, plenty of exams, lectures and most feature films run right around an hour and a half, which makes 90 minutes a handy all-purpose timer.
Ways to Use a 90 Minute Timer
- Deep work - protect one uninterrupted 90 minute block for your most important task
- Study sessions - study a subject for ninety minutes, then take a real break
- Exam practice - simulate a 1.5 hour test to build timing and stamina
- Sleep cycle nap - set 90 minutes to nap through one full sleep cycle
- Movie night - time a feature-length film or a long episode
- Workouts and cooking - any task that runs about an hour and a half
How to Use the Timer
The timer is already set to 90 minutes, so you can just press Start. To change the length, tap a preset for 60, 90 or 120 minutes, or type your own minutes and seconds in the custom time field. Press Start to begin the countdown and press it again to pause. Reset returns the clock to your chosen time. You can also tap the spacebar to start and pause without reaching for the mouse. When the countdown hits zero the display flashes and an alarm plays.

- Keep water nearby so you do not have to break your flow
- If your mind wanders, note the distraction and return to the task
- When the timer ends, step away for a proper break before the next block
